About Us

At Bean Place Nursery we specialize in growing and propagating a wide range of hardy perennials, ornamental grasses, hardy garden ferns, and hostas.

We produce healthy, vigorous young plants that are ready for you to plant straight into your garden.

All our plants are potted using peat free compost incorporating a slow release fertilizer.

The majority of plants we have for sale are grown in 9x9x10 cm pots making them very easy for you to plant into the garden. They establish very quickly as they are young and full of vigor. The advantage of our smaller pot size is a reduction in the use of resources like plastic, compost, fuel to transport and water.

Who we are an introduction to the Bean Place team

Hi I'm Anita Waters

I have a real passion for plants. When I'm not working at the nursery you will find me in my own garden at Watersfield.

I have been in horticulture since leaving school and I trained at Hadlow College in Nursery Stock Production.

I have worked at  a couple of nurseries, one of which was Oakover Nurseries where I worked for five years and this was where I met Tim. I left Oakover Nurseries in 1997 to start our own nursery in Bethersden at Bean Place.

Hi I'm Tim Waters

I met Anita at Oakover Nurseries where I had worked since leaving school, working my way up to a supervisors position.

In 1999 I left Oakover Nurseries after twenty one years to join Anita in building our own business.

This is Bobby

The most adored member of the team. Ready to meet and greet you with a wet nose and a wagging tail.

Bobby is a charming dog who enjoys having other dogs to stay with him as paying house guests. Looked after by Anita who is a Maidstone borough council registered five star, fully insured dog home boarder. Licence Number (23/00642/ANEST)

Bean Place Nursery Story

In 1997 we had the opportunity to use a small piece of land situated at Bean Place in Bethersden Kent to start our nursery.

Our business grew over a five year period resulting in us being able to purchase five acres of farm land just outside Headcorn Kent in 2002 which we named Watersfield after our surname Waters. Even though we have moved we continue to trade under the name of Bean Place Nursery.

We have invested time and money into building our site from scratch, laying on water, electric, planting living windbreaks, rabbit proofing the whole of the nursery area with fencing and building our capillary beds. Along with polythene tunnels and a lath house to provide different area's and conditions to grow our plants in.

In the autumn of 2008 after being granted full plannning permission we moved our home to Watersfield in Headcorn. From a bare field we have slowly been developing a garden around our home. This is an on going project but some area's are just starting to develop a little maturity with the help of the hedges that we have planted to split the garden into different areas. We started to open the garden for the odd weekend in September allowing the public to wander around the borders and to purchase plants that we have for sale.

Up until 2020 our main outlet for sales was plant fairs and major flower shows all around the country, but the effects of Covid-19 pandemic forced us to re think. In April 2021 we opened a dedicated outdoor sales area at the nursery. The public are able to purchase plants directly from us. See opening times here. If you are close enough to visit, we look forward to welcoming you in person.

2022 saw us celebrating 25 years in business with a return to plant fairs and flower shows. You can keep up to date by following us on FACEBOOK, INSTAGRAMor sign up to our mailing list below for more info, promotions and general information.
